Reading at the Hub

2026 is the Literacy Trust’s Year of Reading and the Hub will supporting this campaign throughout the year as part of the Hub’s mission to support life long learning. The National Year of Reading is the biggest campaign in a generation designed to help more people (re)discover the joy of reading and make it part of their everyday lives.

Reading expands our world and sharpens our minds, yet fewer people are making time to read.

Reading is for living as water is for life. The skill of reading is central to everyday living, finding things out and for fun and discovery.
Kids need to read and parents need to help them learn. Having enough books for kids can cost a lot so at the Hub On The Green, we’re helping kids, parents and carers get the books they need for stories and learning, for information and inspiration. The National Year of Reading is forever and for everyone”

Blind Date with a Book

Pop in and grab a surprise book

Grown Ups

Feeling adventurous?

Go on a Blind Date with a Book! No cover. No title. Just a few sneaky clues and a whole lot of surprise.

Pick, unwrap, and fall for a story you never saw coming.

A "Blind Date with a Book" is a popular, fun reading initiative where books are wrapped in paper to hide their cover, title, and author. Instead, the wrapper features clues, such as genre, keywords, or a short summary, encouraging readers to choose a story based on content rather than appearance.

Our lovely volunteers Fiona, Jane and Mhairi have donated, wrapped and clued up books for both grown ups and children respectively to raise funds for the Hub. All books are £1 and are available during opening hours.

Children’s

No peeking allowed!

Choose a mystery-wrapped book and discover a surprise story inside. Will it be funny? Magical? An epic adventure.

There’s only one way to find out… unwrap and read!
