Repurpose old clothes and fabrics - learning to sew
The Hub is delighted to announce the pre-launch of a new series of 8 weekly community sewing workshops focused on fabric repair, reuse, and creative repurposing.
The workshops will empower the community to extend the life of household textiles and clothing, reducing textile waste and promoting circular living through fun, practical sessions. Places will be limited and booking will open soon! This group will also support repairs in our uniform Swop Shop.
The project is possible thanks to funding received from Veolia, Pascal Hauret, Managing Director, Municipal at Veolia, said“ Celebrating the fifth anniversary of our Fund is a significant landmark. We have seen first-hand how it can make a huge difference to both people and the planet by supporting local communities across the UK.
The group is part of a wider initiative to increase sustainability impact at the Hub and will support the jewel in our crown, the Uniform Swop Shop.
Our School Uniform Swap Shop is a community-led initiative tackling both environmental sustainability and financial hardship. Each week, we process an average of 60kg of donated school uniforms, which are sorted, sized and redistributed free of charge to families across the local community.
Impact to Date
- Over 3 tons of school uniform diverted from landfill in 2025
- Around 20 families access our free eco service every week, collecting uniforms for their children at no cost
- We stock and supply uniforms for 8 local primary schools and 4 local secondary schools, as well as a wide range of unbranded school clothing for general use
- Hundreds of local families supported annually through free clothing provision.
